Wait! Blue Cross Blue Shield to stop accepting credit cards! Just from looking at the title, I begin shaking my head. If a person is paying with a credit card, doesn’t that mean usually you are getting PAID! I don’t mean to be harsh. So I continued reading. Here’s the gist of the story: As of June 1, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois will not accept credit cards from members whether that insurance is purchase on the exchange or not. They are looking for ways to cut spending. They will take other forms of payment and debit cards.
I am still in shock over this one. I remember a time not so long ago when a credit card was the only acceptable form of card payment..not a debit card. Now it seems as if they are returning back to the basics. I tell you what, I hope the people in Illinois have been reading their mail or watching the news on this one. I wonder if they are accepting checks by mail or over the phone BUT charging you to use your own money!
I’m always amazed when I contact the utility company or even like the phone company and it says on the recording if you pay it through the automatic system there’s no charge BUT if you talk with a representative they will charge you anywhere from $5 to $10. GO ONLINE if you can’t use the automatic system!!
This post is not supposed to turn into a finances lesson..yet I am inclined at this point to say why don’t you add up how much you pay in fees on a monthly basis for paying bills or even using ATM. Prepare yourself! You may discover you have a decent amount for a savings account or even enough start building an emergency fund.
Let’s get back to Blue Cross Blue Shield. Since this is happening in Illinois, do you think this will happen in other states? Comment below!
